Welcome Aboard
“The purpose of recreation is not to kill time but to stimulate activity – not to keep people occupied but to keep them refreshed – not to offer an escape from life but to expand its possibilities.”
CharterAbility’s goal is to open the door to recreational boating for people who have been deprived of the opportunity by virtue of their physical limitations or personal circumstances – and, thereby, enhance the quality of their lives.
For most of us, life today is a challenge. Expressing ourselves, utilizing our talents and leading a fulfilling life is difficult at the best of times. We all need a break, an opportunity to relax, a chance to enjoy the world around us and achieve some balance in our lives. For persons with disabilities, the physically challenged, or the less fortunate members of our society, such a balance is even more difficult to achieve – yet it is essential to their wellbeing.
Boating offers an opportunity for people to participate in activities on and around the waters of Oakville’s Sixteen Mile Creek and Lake Ontario. An opportunity for them to view their surroundings from a different perspective, listen to the lapping of the water against the boat or feel the wind in their faces – in the company of family, friends and helpers.
Boat trips for FREE
Our dock in Oakville Harbour is fully accessible to persons with disabilities and the less agile. So too is the power boat we use for cruising Sixteen Mile Creek – a tranquil wildlife sanctuary right in the heart of town. The facility which is fully paved and equipped with accessible washrooms, picnic tables and park benches is open from May 19 to October 13.
